The island institution and the IGP Almendra de Mallorca have awarded him the prize for ‘the dissemination and promotion of Mallorcan almonds through traditional confectionery’.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, presented the 4th Flor d’Ametller award this Wednesday to master confectioner Pep Trias, for his contribution to the dissemination and knowledge of Mallorcan almonds through traditional confectionery.
The Consell de Mallorca and the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) have decided that, in this fourth edition, the award will go to Pep Trias, of the Pastry Shop Trias del Secar de la Real, for ‘his ability to promote the quality and flavour of Mallorcan almonds and make them the essence of his artisan creations, such as the authentic gató d’ametla or the almond nougat cake’.

The Consell de Mallorca awards the Flor d’Ametler 2025 prize to the master artisan confectioner Pep Trias
The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Son Blai estate in Inca and was attended by numerous members of organisations and cooperatives that promote the cultivation and consumption of Mallorcan almonds, as well as representatives of the different institutions on the islands.
In his speech, President Galmés referred to the Mallorcan almond as an ‘excellent and fundamental product of our culinary culture, which this year’s award winner, Pep Trias, uses in his artisanal preparations that form part of our tradition and gastronomy’.
‘In addition to representing a beautiful image at this time of year, the one offered by the island’s landscape of almond blossom, Mallorcan almonds are a product with excellent nutritional and healthy qualities’, added Llorenç Galmés, who emphasised the important role played by this ingredient “in our culinary culture and, especially, in our fantastic confectionery”.
Likewise, Llorenç Galmés stated that ‘at the Consell de Mallorca we are very clear that the preservation of local farming and agriculture is fundamental and, for this reason, this year we have increased by 50% the amount allocated to the promotion of local produce, to reach more beneficiaries, increase the visibility and recognition of local produce and encourage its consumption.
Promotion of Mallorcan produce
For her part, the councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, referred to the satisfaction of awarding the prize to a confectioner who ‘has always demonstrated his firm commitment to Mallorcan almonds, which he uses to make his delicious artisan desserts, making a very active contribution to the promotion of our local product and, in short, to the preservation of traditional recipes’.
The event was attended by the Director General of Food Quality and Local Products of the Balearic Government, Joan Llabrés; the Director of Economic Promotion and Products of Mallorca, Álvaro Roca, and the President of the Regulatory Council of the PGI Almond of Mallorca, Miquel Riera, among other representatives of agricultural entities and quality brands.
After the presentation of the award, a social economy catering service was served, with a tasting of products made with Majorcan PGI almonds and, to round off the event, gató d’ametla from the Trias bakery was offered.
This year, the gift is the work of the artisan María Obando Olarán, who used sheep’s wool from the Ses Cabanasses estate in Petra to create an almond blossom in a handmade palm basket.
This award, which is presented every year by the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Almendra de Mallorca and the Consell de Mallorca, recognises individuals or entities that have carried out initiatives or actions throughout their careers that promote the dissemination of this product.
