Renovation work on the second phase of pavements on the Paseo Marítimo in Maó is complete
The intervention has had a cost of 186,513.30 euros, with a 50% contribution from the Consell Insular and the rest financed by the Town Hall, according to the agreement signed in December 2021. It is worth remembering that this is the second phase of the Paseo Marítimo works. During 2023, the pavements, the pavement and the sewerage system were renovated in the section between Port de Maó Avenue and Fort de l’Eau Avenue. The street lighting and street furniture were also renewed.
Replacement of street lighting
Coinciding with the works on the pavements, the street lighting in the same area has also been replaced. In addition, new lighting has been installed at the entrances to the Club Marítimo and in a section of the pedestrian street.
The president of the Consell Insular de Menorca, Adolfo Vilafranca, explains that ‘modernising the Paseo Marítimo is important both for the residents of the area and for the citizens of Maó. With these actions, we gain in safety and accessibility, two essential aspects for the proper functioning of an urban area as busy and important as the seafront’.
For his part, the mayor of Maó, Héctor Pons, said: ‘With these actions we are restoring a quality image to the seafront promenade, improving the environment, accessibility and safety, as well as providing more efficient lighting. We believe that this is a very important step forward for Maó, and that it should continue with the sections of the area that are still pending’.
