The Consell de Mallorca kicks off the Easter Week 2025 programme: exhibitions, concerts and conferences for all audiences until 22nd May
According to the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, ‘this is the starting point of a rich and diverse programme for Easter Week, which has just begun and will continue until May, with the main aim of promoting and highlighting the island’s cultural heritage’.
Galmés pointed out that the Easter Week programme includes two key moments: the performance on Maundy Thursday of the Joch de Ministrils, after its recovery, in the traditional procession of Sant Crist de la Sang, and the performance of the Stations of the Cross, on 11th April at 8 p.m., in the parish church of Santa Maria de Sineu, by the Agrupació Campanera Pinyol Vermell (Bell Ringers’ Group). The president also pointed out that ‘these cultural events reaffirm the Consell de Mallorca’s commitment to promoting and disseminating the island’s heritage, offering activities that connect tradition with the present and providing culture for everyone’.
Exhibitions
The two exhibitions inaugurated today will be joined by a third one: the exhibition ‘Stabat Mater. Advocations and artistic manifestations of the Mallorcan dolorosa’, which can be visited from the 19th of March to the 29th of April in the Lluís Alemany Library of the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre.
Concerts
The Easter Week concerts will feature the participation of several of the island’s music bands. The performances will begin on the 23rd of March in the courtyard of the Homes of the Centro Cultural La Misericòrdia and will continue throughout the month of April in different municipalities, such as Sencelles, Maria de la Salut, Lloseta and Mancor.
The concert on 23rd March at La Misericòrdia will have a different format: it will be a large gathering of a dozen bands in the patio dels Homes, bringing together more than 500 musicians, between 10 am and 1 pm and 4 pm and 7 pm.
As for the other concerts, on the 4th of April, the Camp Redó Music Band will perform in the parish church of Sant Pere de Sencelles; on the 5th of April, at 7 pm, the concert will be in the church of Maria de la Salut; on 10th April, at 8 pm, it will be the turn of the Agrupació Musical Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Sa Indioteria and the Agrupació Musical Seràfics de Inca, in the parish church of La Nativitat de la Mare de Déu de Lloseta and, finally, on 11th April, at 7 pm, the Selva Band will perform in the church of Mancor.
Conferences
In the academic sphere, the programme includes several conferences on subjects related to Mallorcan Holy Week, such as devotion to the Sant Crist de la Sang, the costumes worn by the Dolorosa and the evolution of processional music in Palma. The catalogue Photographs of Easter Week in Palma will also be presented. All these activities will be held on the ground floor of the Misericòrdia between the 1st and 10th of April, at 7 pm.
Stations of the Cross and the Joc de Ministries (Minstrels’ Play)
One of the highlights of the programme will be the performance of the Stations of the Cross by the ‘Agrupació Campanera de Pinyol Vermell’ on the 13th of April at 8 pm in the parish church of Santa Maria de Sineu. The Joc de Ministrils will also take part in the traditional procession of the Sant Crist de la Sang, on Maundy Thursday in Palma.
