The Hospital launches interactive maps to guide patients and visitors
Son Espases University Hospital has created a series of interactive maps to improve the orientation of patients and visitors to its facilities. This initiative offers an intuitive guidance solution using the Hospital’s mobile application and the various QR codes that are being installed in key locations throughout the hospital.
With more than eight hundred beds and a surface area of 172,000 square metres, Son Espases is a large healthcare complex that receives thousands of patients every day, making accessibility and orientation within this large complex a challenge for both patients and visitors, and even for healthcare staff.

Son Espases creates its interactive location map
The Hospital has identified the difficulty of finding one’s way around the complex as one of the main sources of dissatisfaction among visitors, and a modern and efficient solution was needed to make it easier for them to access the different areas. This interactive map is intended to improve their autonomy.
On the other hand, the head of the IT Service, Joan Marquès, assures that ‘taking advantage of technology to improve accessibility within the Hospital was a priority. This interactive map is part of a broader strategy to modernise digital services and improve the experience of all our users.
With the addition of this digital tool, which patients have already successfully tested, it is hoped to reduce confusion and improve mobility within the facility with clear visual guidance; optimise staff operational efficiency by reducing the need to provide directions; and increase patient and visitor satisfaction by providing easier and more convenient directions.
The hospital chose Situm’s interactive maps because of their accuracy and ease of use, as well as the fact that they integrate easily with other platforms such as websites and digital kiosks. This solution differs from traditional maps because it specialises in improving orientation in hospital environments, although it is also used in other types of facilities, such as airports. It offers turn-by-turn navigation in both indoor and outdoor areas; a smart search to easily locate departments and practices; a ‘Find My Car’ feature that helps visitors locate their vehicle in the hospital car park; customisable map elements; and integration into mobile apps, websites and digital kiosks, ensuring information is accessible from multiple platforms.
With the publication of Situm’s interactive maps, Son Espases Hospital creates its own online map service and takes a step forward in its digital transformation strategy, while reinforcing its commitment to continuous improvement and patient experience.
