This aid aims to facilitate the recovery of the agricultural and livestock sector, as well as to contribute to the maintenance of Menorca’s landscape.

The Consell Insular de Menorca has approved the bases and the call for aid to support farms damaged by the floods of the DANA of 15 August 2024, where the impact on Menorca was severe, registering significant damage to infrastructure such as roads and farms, especially in the municipalities of Mercadal and Alaior, as well as the catchment areas of the streams, the headwaters of which are in these municipalities.

The call for proposals provides for two lines of aid depending on the source of funding and the municipalities affected:

  • Line 1: With a maximum total budget of 1,675,246.06 euros, financed by the Administration of the Autonomous Community through the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Consell Insular de Menorca, this line will be used to cover material damage suffered on farms located in the municipalities of Mercadal and Alaior (1,475,246.06 euros), as well as production losses (200,000 euros).
  • Line 2: With a maximum total budget of 200,000 euros, financed with the Consell Insular de Menorca’s funds, this line will be used to cover damage suffered by farms located in the rest of the municipalities of Menorca (100,000 euros), as well as production losses (100,000 euros).

The maximum individual amount of aid to alleviate the material damage caused by the DANA will be 40,000 euros and the deadline for submitting applications and justification will end on 4 June 2025. The purpose of this aid is to facilitate the recovery of the agricultural and livestock sector, as well as to contribute to the maintenance of Menorca’s landscape.

The beneficiaries of this aid may be natural or legal persons, groups of natural or legal persons, communities of property or any other type of economic unit or separate estate without legal personality that are owners of an agricultural holding and whose territorial base is located within the affected areas, and that the owner or any manager entitled to do so has notified any public administration, before 31 October 2024, of the damage caused by the DANA on their holding and that it was registered at the time of the damage in the Register of Agricultural Holdings (RAE).

Eligible expenditure includes material damage such as agricultural installations; agricultural infrastructure, e.g. pipes, feeding troughs and livestock netting; road infrastructure, e.g. roads, fords and bridges; restoration and levelling of agricultural land; repair of machinery; rehabilitation of ‘paret seca’; restoration of irrigation channels and streams; and productive elements, e.g. cattle and fruit trees. Damage due to production losses can be silage bales, straw bales, and fruit and vegetable bales.
Applications must be submitted electronically using the standard form available at www.cime.es. Optionally, and only in the case of individuals, they can be presented in person at the headquarters of Maó and Ciutadella of the Consell Insular.
