The tender, with a maximum total cost of 720,403.20 € (VAT included) for four years, takes into account the landscape integration with wooden sanitary modules, and will cover places in all the municipalities of the island.
The Department of Environment, Biosphere Reserve and Cooperation of the Consell Insular de Menorca has put out to tender a new contract for the cleaning and maintenance service of toilets on 14 beaches and 11 points of the Camí de Cavalls, now that the current contract is coming to an end.
The aim is to reinforce the prevention of waste dispersion in the natural environment during the beach season, from May to October, and the Camí de Cavalls season, from October onwards.
The new contract represents an increase in the number of toilets compared to the current contract, in response to the demand of some town councils and the unification of the Island Council’s contracts. The service, which will be provided with toilets integrated into the landscape in wooden modules, has a total budget of 720,403.20 euros (VAT included) and will guarantee coverage in places in all the municipalities of Menorca.

The Consell Insular calls for tenders for a new contract for cleaning and maintenance of toilets at 14 beaches on the island and at 11 points along the Camí de Cavalls
According to the councillor for the Environment, Biosphere Reserve and Cooperation, Simón Gornés, ‘in recent years we have seen that the installation of toilets on certain beaches and sections of the Camí de Cavalls is an effective measure to prevent the proliferation of waste in the natural environment. With this new contract, Consell assumes and reinforces the coverage of this service, which contributes to making public use compatible with the conservation of natural spaces’.
Extension of locations and municipal coverage
The new contract incorporates improvements such as the extension of the service to new locations requested by the town councils of Sant Lluís, Es Castell and Maó, as well as the inclusion of toilets in the Favàritx car park and the Cala Mitjana car park, which were previously tendered separately by the Consell de Mallorca’s Department of Mobility.
Coverage with toilets in the area around the beaches during the high season, from May to October, will be offered in La Vall (Algaiarens), Cala Mitjana (beach), Cala Mitjana (car park), Cala en Turqueta, Son Saura (Es Banyul), Son Saura (Bellavista), Macarella, Cavalleria, Binimel-là, Es Talaier, Favàritx car park and Alfurí. In addition to these are the new locations requested by the town councils and included in the new tender: two services in Binissafúller, one service in Alcalfar, one service in Cala Sant Esteve and two services in Sa Mesquida.
With regard to the installation of toilets in the surroundings of the Camí de Cavalls route, the service will be present in 11 locations: Es Grau, Cala Sant Esteve, Son Parc, La Vall (Algaiarens), San Adeodat, Cala en Porter, Binissafúller, Cala Mitjana, Cala Rafalet, Alfurí and Mongofre (Salines).
With this extension, the presence of toilets will be guaranteed at strategic points in and around both the beaches and the Camí de Cavalls, with the aim of reducing the environmental impact and improving the experience of residents and visitors. The deadline for submitting bids is open until 23 April on the state contracting platform.
The Consell Insular de Menorca continues to work to make the public use of natural spaces compatible with their conservation, offering services such as this one, which contribute to maintaining the environment in optimal conditions.
