Councillor Joan Simonet pointed out that this is a great opportunity to promote local produce as an attraction for differentiated and sustainable tourism. And, on the other hand, it is also done with ‘the aim of increasing exports of our agri-food sector in the German market’.
The CONFERENCE, organised by the Government under the slogan ‘4 islands to savour. Discover the products of the Islands’, will also be held this Thursday in the city of Hamburg.
The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment, together with the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, has organised two promotional events in Germany (Cologne and Hamburg), under the slogan ‘4 islands to savour. Discover the products of the Islands‘, the aim of which is to raise awareness of the Balearic Islands’ differentiated, quality agri-food products among food and drink distributors in this country, as well as among the German media. The Government held this CONFERENCE for the first time last year in London, and as a result of its success and the sector’s request to repeat the experience in another country, this year it has organised it for the second time. The Minister Joan Simonet, accompanied by the Director General of Agri-food Quality and Local Produce, Joan Llabrés, inaugurated the first CONFERENCE in Cologne today.

More than twenty agri-food producers from the Balearic Islands present their quality products at a promotional event in Cologne
During his speech, Simonet expressed his gratitude for the presence and commitment of the islands‘ producers, as well as to the German sales representatives for their interest in the products offered by the Balearic Islands’ agri-food sector: ‘For us, it is essential to support events like this to promote the products of our primary sector as a distinguishing feature of the Balearic Islands. For our producers, it is a great opportunity to promote local produce as an emblem of our islands, with the main aim of increasing exports in the agri-food sector to the German market.
In this way, the Islands’ agri-food producers have been able to establish direct commercial contacts with German food distributors specialising in quality products, to increase their presence and marketing in Germany. In this sense, Simonet pointed out that ‘CONFERENCES like this also serve to promote our local produce as an attraction for quality, differentiated and sustainable tourism. The aim of this is to promote the primary sector of the Balearic Islands and, above all, to improve the profitability of farms.
Specifically, 24 producers from the archipelago were present. Of these, the majority, fifteen, are wineries: 7103 Petit Celler, Can Vidalet, Castell Miquel, Macià Batle, Mesquida Mora, Son Prim, Son Vich de Superna, Celler Can Fumat, José L. Ferrer, Santa Catarina, Vinyes Ca Sa Padrina, Butxet, Pere Seda, Vins Miquel Gelabert, and Torralbenc. In addition to the wineries, three spirits companies took part in the event: Destil-leries Jordi Perelló, Dos Perellons and Licors Moyà. Also taking part were Camp Mallorquí, Flor de Sal, the Treurer estate, the Subaida estate, Bessó de Mallorca and La Luna.
At the presentation, the councillor also stressed that ‘we are a land that offers unique experiences through our gastronomy, with a wide variety of quality products that cannot be found anywhere else in the world, and we are aware that the German market is particularly sensitive to this fact’. ‘We cannot bring the sunshine of our islands to Germany, but we can offer Germans the opportunity to enjoy our products – such as wine, cheese and olive oil – so that they can feel and taste our land from their own homes,’ said Simonet.
In addition, a live culinary demonstration of island products and local wine also took place today, as a representation of how a farm can offer a visitor service for tourists linked to the primary sector.
It should be recalled that the event will be repeated on Thursday, with the same format and the same producers, in Hamburg.
