The Government and the municipalities of the Serra de Tramuntana make progress in coordinating solutions to water shortages

During the meeting, the progress of the actions underway was reviewed, the most urgent needs of each municipality were shared and the next steps in the processing of new projects were defined. Although the rains of recent weeks have brought some temporary relief, the situation remains complex and requires shared, realistic, long-term planning.

The Government has reiterated its commitment to support local councils in the search for technical and administrative solutions to improve water supply.

In this regard, the Director General of Water Resources has committed to helping municipalities to advance in the digitisation of their water networks. This line of work includes the installation of permanent equipment that will make it possible to detect leaks with greater precision by continuously sending information, thus facilitating the location and repair of critical points of water loss.

Calafat also insisted on the need to maintain stable collaboration with the town councils and the other administrations involved, and reminded the councils that they have the support of the Department of the Sea and Water Cycle, both in terms of funding and the technical support needed to carry out the projects.

This second meeting reaffirms the institutional commitment to the Serra and consolidates the Water Board as a space for active cooperation to strengthen the water resilience of the territory.

The meeting was attended by the mayors of Esporles, Josep Ferrà; of Valldemossa, Nadal Torres; of Estellencs, Bernat Isern; the mayor of Bunyola, Maria Antònia Serralta; the councillor for the environment of Banyalbufar, Francesca Iuculano; the second deputy mayor of Puigpunyent, Miquel Estades; and the councillor for the environment of Deià, Henar Arribas. Two technicians from the Regional Ministry of Health, Francisca Panades and Mercedes Alemany, also took part.
