More than 5,800 people opted for the cultural trip to Menorca promoted by the Consell de Mallorca for senior citizens

The programme, 75% subsidised by the Consell, offers a 4-day, 3-night trip to Menorca on a full-board basis, with cultural activities, guided tours, gastronomic experiences and excursions to discover the natural and historical heritage of the neighbouring island. Accommodation will be at the Grupotel Playa Club and departures will take place in four weekly shifts during May: from 6 to 9, from 13 to 16, from 20 to 23 and from 27 to 30.

The trip includes a visit to the Albufera des Grau to observe the diversity of birds and learn about the native flora and fauna of Menorca, a guided tour of Ciutadella with visits to the cathedral and several stately palaces, as well as a visit to a cheese farm with a tasting of typical products.

There will also be a visit to the Naveta des Tudons, one of the most emblematic prehistoric monuments on the island. There will be an excursion to Mount Toro, the highest point on Menorca, and a gastronomic and cultural experience in Fornells, with a tour of the village, and a visit to the Fornells tower and the Cavalleria lighthouse. Finally, the trip will conclude with a visit to Sa Mesquida, the Favàritx lighthouse and the fortress of La Mola, as well as an excursion to Maó.

The councillor for the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, expressed his satisfaction with the public’s response: ‘These figures show that the elderly are keen to participate, to socialise and to enjoy new experiences. We will continue working to offer initiatives that improve their quality of life.

Places will be distributed by means of a public draw, as announced in the call for applications. Those who do not obtain a place will be placed on a waiting list and will be contacted in case of vacancies. The allocation list will be made public at this link.

With this proposal, the Consell de Mallorca reaffirms its commitment to the well-being of the elderly, reinforcing a line of work that also includes other initiatives such as active stays, the Line Dance Day, the Senior Citizens’ Fair and choir meetings.
