The Consell de Mallorca has launched an update of the Serra de Tramuntana indicator system — a key tool for understanding the current state of the municipalities within this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Led by the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium, with support from the Department of Territory and advice from the Expert Committee, the initiative will gather and analyze socioeconomic data from 2019 to 2023. The aim is to create an accurate and up-to-date snapshot of the region.
During a regular meeting held today at the Palau del Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, President of both the Island Council and the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium, confirmed that the data update is underway.

Mallorca Council Updates Serra de Tramuntana Indicator System to Reflect Municipal Realities
This update marks the first significant review since the original assessment, which covered 2013 to 2018. According to Galmés, “Now is the time to collect all this data again and analyze it. The pace of change is accelerating, and public institutions cannot continue to operate with outdated information.”
The new system will compile data across five main areas:
- Culture and heritage
- Population and socioeconomics
- Environment
- Territory and mobility
- Knowledge transfer
These indicators will help the Council identify specific needs and craft public policies tailored to the current realities of each municipality.
Antoni Fuster, Minister of the Presidency, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “The Serra de Tramuntana is a dynamic and ever-changing region. To strike a balance between economic development and the preservation of its heritage, we need solid data.”
The process will involve a specialized data collection firm and active participation from the Expert Committee, which will provide technical and regional insights.
