The Government expresses its condolences for the death of Pere Palau i Torres, former vice-president of the Parliament and former president of the Consell Insular de Ibiza y Formentera

The president of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, and the other members of the Consell de Govern express their condolences for the death of Pere Palau i Torres, who was vice-president of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands and president of the Consell Insular de Ibiza y Formentera.

Born in Sant Miquel de Balansat in 1946, and trained as a technician in tourism companies and activities, Pere Palau had an outstanding professional career in both the public and private sectors, especially in the field of tourism.

Pere Palau i Torres

He was a councillor and first deputy mayor of Sant Antoni de Portamany Town Council during the return to democracy, between 1979 and 1983, and councillor for Tourism in the following legislature. In 1987, he began a new stage in the Consell Insular de Ibiza y Formentera (Island Council of Ibiza and Formentera), where he was vice-president and island councillor of Tourism for three consecutive terms. He was later elected president of the island government in the 2003-2007 legislature.

A member of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands for the Partido Popular from 1987 to 2015, Pere Palau was a member of the Bureau in several legislatures, serving as vice-president and secretary.
