On 23rd April, Book Day, the activities will take place at the IEB stand in the Plaça de Cort, and at the headquarters of this institution, Ca n’Oleo, in Palma
The Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) will participate, once again this year, in the celebration of Book Day, with a series of diverse activities of a cultural and creative nature that will take place from next Saturday, the 12th, until 23rd April, Book Day.
The aim of the activities is to promote the reading and consumption of literary works in Catalan among young people and adults in the Balearic Islands and to stimulate the creation and dissemination of content in Catalan.
For all this, among the different proposals of the IEB this year we find the second edition of the Bookface Competition, the colloquiums in the different islands with some of the authors of the collection ‘Illes de Paraules’, the round table between several island writers, the recording of the podcast ‘Perfil lector’, with Cati Moyà and Ratacorner, the announcement of the winners of the Per Sant Jordi, Mou la Llengua literary video competition, illustration workshops, storytelling and the Corda i Poal escape game, as well as setting up a stand throughout Book Day with information and literary resources presented by this institution.

Thus, as part of the talks in the ‘Illes de Paraules’ collection, organised by the Xarxa de Centres de Català, the first activity to be held on Saturday the 12th of April at 10 am in the Can Ventosa municipal library in Ibiza will be a talk with author David Ventura and his work Sortir a córrer, rentar-se les dents, portar-se bé. The second conversation will take place on Monday the 14th of April at 11 am at the Centre de Català in Manacor, with Miquel Bezares and his play Cleveland, followed by the main presentation of the new librettos in the ‘Illes de Paraules’ collection.
The presentation of the collection will be held on Tuesday, 15th April, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Can Sales library, with a conversation between Gabriel Janer Manila and Maite Salord as guest authors.
Finally, the activity will close with a conversation with the author Maite Salord and her work L’alè de les cendres, which will take place next Wednesday, 23rd April, at 7 pm in the auditorium of the Casa de Cultura de Ciutadella. The day before the festival, on Tuesday the 22nd of April, at 6 pm at the Estudi General Lul-lià, a round table discussion will be held between several island writers, moderated by Cati Moyà, a cultural journalist.
On 23 April, Book Day, the IEB will be holding different activities at the institution’s stand at the 2025 Book Fair, in the Plaça de Cort, and at the IEB headquarters, in the Ca n’Oleo building in Palma.
During the morning, at the stand, there will be an illustration workshop by Robert Campillo and a storytelling by Aina Zuazaga, complemented by a live illustration by Pato Conde. On the same day, in the afternoon, the Cort stand will host the podcast ‘Perfil lector’ by Cati Moyà and Ratacorner with Blanca Pavón and the ceramic painting workshop, for children and adults, with Neus Carreras.
In addition, in the Ca n’Oleo building you can enjoy the escape game activity run by Corda i Poal, with three sessions in the morning and another three in the afternoon.
The 2nd Per Sant Jordi, Mou la Llengua literary video-recommendations competition has also been held over the last few days, aimed at young readers, consisting of recording a video reading a fragment of a literary work in Catalan or a poem by Josep Maria Llompart. The competition was launched in January and the winners will be announced on 23 April during the recording of the podcast ‘Perfil lector’ with Cati Moyà and Ratacorner, which will take place in the morning at the IEB stand.
Finally, the Bookface en Català competition, promoted by the IEB’s Xarxa de Centres de Català, will continue its period of participation, open until 25th April, in parallel with the events programmed for Book Day 2025.
