The infrastructure will provide optimal coverage for the town centre and surrounding area, an area that until now had a weak signal
More installations will be carried out in the coming months as part of the comprehensive plan to modernise the TetraIB network, which reinforces the security and territorial cohesion of the Balearic Islands
The Government of the Balearic Islands has taken an important step towards improving the security and efficiency of the emergency services in Artà, with the commissioning of a new antenna of the TetraIB communications network for emergency services. This infrastructure, coordinated by the Balearic Agency for Digitalisation, Cybersecurity and Telecommunications (IB Digital), will provide optimum coverage for the town centre of Artà and the surrounding area, an area that until now had a weak signal.
The manager of IB Digital, Miquel Cardona, has come to the municipality to supervise the commissioning of the new equipment, accompanied by the mayor of Artà, Manolo Galán, and representatives of the installation company. The action is part of the project co-financed by the European ERDF funds, has a total amount of 13 million euros and will be implemented over the next three years to modernise critical communication infrastructures in the Balearic Islands.

IB Digital places the first of 40 new antennas in Artà to maximise coverage in emergencies
“Until now, efforts have focused on reinforcing coverage in the coastal area and in the Levante Natural Park, where the influx of tourists and emergency needs were a priority. But today we are responding to a historical need in the town centre of Artà, which was in the shadows. From now on, the municipality will have excellent coverage throughout the municipality,” he explained.
The TetraIB network is the professional mobile communications infrastructure used by the Government to guarantee secure, stable and coordinated communications between the different emergency services. The transversal design makes it possible to offer this service in all town councils and public bodies, avoiding duplication and optimising technological resources.
The agreement with the FELIB
Until now, the Local Police of Artà used its system, but it is expected that with this new infrastructure, it will join the TetraIB network. This integration will be especially easy thanks to the collaboration agreement signed last week between IB Digital and the Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands (FELIB), which facilitates the access of municipalities to the technological services of the Government.
“This antenna not only improves coverage: it opens the door for the local police of Artà to be integrated into a professional, secure and shared system with the rest of the island’s emergency services. This improves coordination, security and represents an economic saving for the Town Hall,” added Cardona.
The mayor of Artà, Manolo Galán, expressed his satisfaction with the reinforcement of security in the municipality: “It was a historical claim. With this new antenna, Artà gains in response capacity and security for its citizens. I thank the Govern and IB Digital for this commitment to the municipalities, and we are confident that our police can soon be integrated into the TetraIB network to work better coordinated with the rest of the emergency forces,” said the mayor.
This is the first of more than 40 new antennas that will be installed in the coming months as part of a comprehensive plan to modernise the TetraIB network, which reinforces the security and territorial cohesion of the Balearic Islands.
IB Digital thus reaffirms its role as the Government’s technology company and offers transversal, efficient and sustainable services for the entire public administration. Its approach allows for joint management that saves costs, avoids duplication in tenders and facilitates access to advanced technological solutions in the municipalities without assuming individual burdens.
The Artà antenna marks the beginning of a new stage in emergency communications in the Levante region. A stage in which technology is placed at the service of the citizens, reinforcing the safety and coordination of those who work for their well-being.
