The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment, together with Aquicultura Balear, donates five thousand sea bass to eight social organisations in Mallorca.

The five thousand copies, weighing approximately one kilo each, have begun to be distributed today among the eight social entities in Mallorca that have wanted to join the project. They are the Fundació Monti-sion Solidària; the Fundación Banco de Alimentos de Mallorca; Càritas Diocesana de Mallorca; the association Mallorca Sense Fam; SOS Mamas Baleares; Ebenezer Maranata; the Associació de Veïns Bons Aires-Arxiduc, and the Barceló Foundation.

In addition to representatives of the social entities, the event was attended by the mayoress of Andratx, Estefanía Gonzalvo; the director general of Agrifood Quality and Local Product, Joan Llabrés; the director general of Fisheries, Antoni M. Grau; the manager of IRFAP, Georgina Brunet; the production director of Aquicultura Balear, Alberto Morente, as well as staff from the Andratx Fishermen’s Guild and IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB), who have also participated in the work of this initiative.

In this sense, the director general of Agri-food Quality and Local Products stressed that ‘thanks to this project, which has the collaboration and coordination of various entities, many families, which in this case are those who need it most, can have a healthy, fresh and high-quality product on the table, such as sea bass. We are very proud to support initiatives like this.

It should be noted that the company Aquicultura Balear is in charge of donating the fish, and the Conselleria de Agricultura, Pesca y Medio Natural covers the fishing, management and logistics costs. In addition, the Andratx Fishermen’s Guild also collaborates with the extraction of sea bass and provides its facilities, where part of the fish is stored.

The project, which takes place at the IRFAP-LIMIA facilities and has as its main objective the productive improvement of sea bass breeding with different commercial diets, is co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), thanks to a collaboration agreement between IRFAP and Aquicultura Balear.
