A total of thirteen activities will be held from 26th April to 7th June in different venues around the island, with Santanyí as the epicentre.

The Consell de Mallorca, through the Fundació Mallorca Literària, presents a new edition of the Versud poetry cycle, a programme of literary activities that will turn Mallorca, and especially Santanyí, into the epicentre of the world of poetry. This cycle, which kicks off on Saturday the 26th of April and runs until the 7th of June, offers seven weekends of intense poetic activity in several venues around the island, including Campos, Felanitx, Inca, Artà, Capdepera, Palma and Pollença.

Casa Blai Bonet, in Santanyí, will host this emblematic cultural event for the first time, which has already established itself as a point of reference for poetry lovers. It will do so on two days, the first on the 2nd of May, with a concert by gaviota.mp3, an artistic project by the poet Max Codinach, and the second, on the 17th of May, with the inauguration of the exhibition ‘L’art i les lletres a favor de la llengua i la llibertat d’expressió’ by PEN Català, in recognition of all the artists who have supported the organisation for over one hundred years. In addition, Santanyí will once again take centre stage in the cycle on the 24th of May, with the poetry show ‘Emergències’ by Mireia Calafell and Nil Ciuró, at the town’s Teatre Principal.

The Consell de Mallorca hosts a new edition of the poetry cycle Versud

This cycle, which has been running for several editions now, reaffirms the Consell de Mallorca’s commitment to the promotion of poetry and the literary arts. ‘Poetry is a form of expression that transcends borders, and with this new edition of the Versud cycle, we want Mallorca to become a true cultural meeting point and make poetry resonate strongly on the island and be enjoyed by everyone,’ said the island’s Director of Culture, Guillem Ginard.
In this edition, Versud pays tribute to great figures of poetry such as Josep Maria Llompart, on his centenary, Miquel Costa i Llobera, Blai Bonet and Miquel Àngel Riera. Their words will be in dialogue with the most current voices on the poetry scene, including Mireia Calafell, Maria Sevilla, Hug Casals, Eva Ortega and Max Codinach.
In addition, the programme of activities will combine poetry with other artistic languages to enrich the cultural experience.

Programme

The cycle will begin on Saturday 26 April, at Can Alcover, Palma, with ‘Poesía y vi novel’ (Poetry and new wines), a recital with emerging voices that combines a pairing of new vintage wines with debut poets in the field of current poetry in Catalan. Clàudia Darder from Mallorca, Joan Rotger from Menorca and Pep Sanz from Lleida will share the stage to weave together sounds and words.

The next event will be on 2 May, at Casa Blai Bonet. This is a concert by gaviota.mp3, an artistic project by the poet Max Codinach, who takes poetry to the realm of urban music and post-pop.
Miquel Costa i Llobera will speak on Saturday 3 May, in an itinerary through the poem ‘La deja del genio griego’, on its 125th anniversary.
In the first part, we will visit the village of Ses Païsses and les coves d’Artà, two of the settings where the action of the poem takes place through two guides, Miquel Àngel Adrover and Pilar Garcias. The most exciting conclusion will be looking out over the Mediterranean Sea, with the concert at the Canyamel point of Nuredduna, by Magí Garcías.

On the 9th of May, Felanitx will host a double poetry show with the actor and poet Hug Casals and the electronic and verse proposal by the Ortega Brothers, a project by Eva Ortega, actress and poet, and Toni Ortega, musician.

The gardens of the Oratory of San Blai will once again be the setting for Versud thanks to the now customary collaboration with the ‘Campos es poesia’ cycle of the Obra Cultural Balear de Campos. It will be on Friday the 16th of May with the show ‘L’argelaga del desig’, by Sònia Moya and Santi Careta.

On 17 May, we will return to Casa Blai Bonet to inaugurate the exhibition ‘Art and letters in favour of language and freedom of expression’ of PEN Català, a recognition of all the artists who have supported the organisation over more than a hundred years. Coinciding with the inauguration, the actor Guillem Galmés, grandson of Miquel Àngel Riera, will give a recital in which he will give voice to the poems of his godfather, accompanied by the guitar of Damià Timoner.

‘Emergències’, the poetry show by Mireia Calafell and Nil Ciuró, can be seen on the 24th of May at the Teatre Principal in Santanyí.
A vindication of the double meaning of the word emergency: that it implies an end, yes, but also an outbreak, an opportunity.

On the 30th of May, poets Toni Juncosa, Eloi Creus and Aina Garcia Carbó will recite in three voices paired with three wines in the cloister of Sant Domingo de Inca in a new edition of the now classic Versud ‘Poesia i vi’ (Poetry and wine). On 31st May, Sardinian poetry will accompany Catalan poetry with Anna Maria Serra, Giuseppe Tirotto, Toni Juncosa, Eloi Creus and Clara Fontanet. The recital will take place in the courtyard of the Casa Blai Bonet.

The last weekend of the cycle will begin on 6 June with the event ‘Canto visual’, at Casa Blai Bonet. Horacio Sapere will inaugurate a new intervention at the ‘Poeteca en diálogo’ linked to the words of Blai Bonet.
