The film producer retires after a lifetime of work focused on the growth of the audiovisual sector in Mallorca

Pedro Barbadillo (Seville, 1956) will step down as head of the Mallorca Film Commission this Friday after twelve years at the helm of the organisation. The film producer is retiring after a whole working life focused on the growth of the audiovisual sector in Mallorca.
Barbadillo arrived at the Mallorca Film Commission, part of the Fundació Mallorca Turisme (FMT), in 2010 and held the post until 2012. Later, in 2016, he resumed his position as technical manager, which he held until the day of his retirement.

During his time at the helm of the Mallorca Film Commission, Barbadillo has witnessed the growth of the film industry on the island. “During these years we have tried to promote Mallorca as a film set and attract economic activity linked to cinema. Mallorca has become one of the territories with the highest production volume at a national level,” Barbadillo assures.

From his years of work, he also highlights the boost to the local industry and celebrates the growth of festivals such as Evolution and Atlántida. “It was not logical for Mallorca not to have festivals. Now it has events with national and international projection”.
However, not everything has been joyful during these years. He regrets, above all, the projects that have not been shot in Mallorca, such as “The House of the Dragon” or one of the latest James Bond films. “They changed Estellencs for Jamaica at the last minute due to disagreements between the director and the rest of the team, a pity.

These are anecdotes that do not tarnish a period to which Barbadillo puts an end with satisfaction: “I leave happy because a lot of work has been done and I leave with the expectation that it will not be lost. The institutions must support cinema because it is a guarantee that there is interest in moving forward”.

The Councillor for Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, thanked Pedro Barbadillo for ‘his dedication, commitment and work during all this time at the head of the Mallorca Film Commission, which has allowed the film industry in Mallorca to grow’.
