Sant Llorenç des Cardassar has taken an important step towards comprehensive security with the commissioning of a new communications antenna of the TetraIB network, a critical infrastructure to ensure communications between emergency bodies in high-risk situations such as floods or natural disasters. The installation, located on a Cellnex telecommunications tower less than a kilometre from Son Carrió, will provide optimal coverage in the town centre and will extend to the coast of Sa Coma and S’Illot, areas that until now had weak and unstable coverage.
This new infrastructure, co-financed with European ERDF funds as part of a 13 million euro project to be executed over the next three years, has been presented by the manager of IB Digital, Miquel Cardona, accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, Jaume Soler; the head of the Local Police, Martí Galmés, and representatives of the UTE Cellnex-Sampol, the company awarded the project.
“We are talking about an area that has suffered severely from the effects of floods in the past. The Government’s priority is clear: to provide the security and emergency forces with the best tools to protect citizens. This antenna not only offers excellent coverage, but is designed to withstand critical situations,” said Cardona.

The Government reinforces security in Sant Llorenç with a new TetraIB antenna: full coverage, emergency technology and guarantee against floods
During the visit, the IB Digital technical team and the local authorities reviewed the installations, highlighting that the antenna has an autonomous battery system capable of maintaining the service for more than 20 hours without power supply, as well as connections prepared for the installation of portable generators, which guarantees the continuity of service even in scenarios of prolonged power failure.
“This action gives us peace of mind. It is an investment that not only improves the day-to-day operations of our security forces but can also make a difference in an emergency. We now know that we can rely on secure communications even in the worst conditions,” said Soler.
The new antenna is part of the Government’s deployment to modernise the TetraIB network, a professional communications network that connects local police, Civil Protection and other emergency services in a secure, fast and coordinated way. Its transversal and shared nature allows for efficient use of public resources, avoiding duplication and reducing costs for local councils.
With the inauguration of this antenna, which joins the one installed on 10 April in Artà, the Llevant region now has excellent coverage of the TetraIB network, thus closing one of the most important chapters in the modernisation of emergency telecommunications in Mallorca.
“With these two antennas, we are now optimally covering one of the most critical areas of our geography. We can now say that the Llevant has a robust, reliable TetraIB network, ready to respond to any situation,” Cardona emphasised.
The Local Police of Sant Llorenç, a major user of the TetraIB network for years, had requested this improvement to cover areas where the signal was still weak. The new infrastructure responds to this demand and reinforces daily operations and coordination with other bodies in case of emergency.
The recently signed agreement between IB Digital and the Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands (FELIB) will make it even easier for new municipalities to join the network. During the presentation, the advantages of the new agreement were explained to the local authorities, such as access to a specialised User Attention Service, the loan of terminals in extraordinary situations and the shared use of the mobile Telecommunications Station, inaugurated last summer, which allows reinforcing coverage in mass events or disaster situations.
“This new antenna was an urgent necessity for our municipality, and we are very grateful to the Balearic Government for having made it a reality. We now have solid coverage that will allow us to work more safely and efficiently, even in emergencies or power outages. It is an improvement that makes a difference for the protection of our neighbours,” explained the head of the local police, Martí Galmés.
The meeting also discussed new opportunities for collaboration, such as the design of a specific training course for local police officers on the use and management of communications with the TetraIB network, thus helping to further professionalise the use of this key tool.
