During the event, the calendar of events to be held from next May until the end of 2025 was announced. On the 3rd and 4th of May in Palma, a dramatised route has been programmed to explain the biography and the most outstanding works of Carme Riera, by the company Ovnipresents, with playwriting by Miquel Mas. The format of this type of theatre allows the author’s work to be brought closer to the general public in a more entertaining way, and it can be organised in different venues around the Balearic Islands, at the request of institutions and entities.

Among the different initiatives announced, the main event of this celebration is scheduled to take place on the 5th of June at Sa Llotja in Palma. The event will be held at around 6 pm, with the participation of the President of the Government, Margalida Prohens, and Carme Riera. This will be followed by the presentation of the documentary on the figure of Carme Riera, which will be co-produced by IB3, Radiotelevisión de las Illes Balears, and the IEB.

This documentary, created by an island production company, will be presented in preview during the institutional act and, later on, around September, its full content will be broadcast by IB3.

In addition, an exhibition on the figure and work of Riera will be inaugurated in September, with special attention to the tribute work Te deix, amor, la mar com a penyora at the Archive of the Kingdom of Mallorca in Palma until December 2025. The exhibition project, curated by Lucía Garau and Bàrbara Galmés, will be accompanied by different events, conferences and academic sessions.

Between September and December, a reading club will be organised in the Can Sales library, with the reading of three works by Carme Riera. This reading club will close with a meeting with the author on 15 December 2025, with the attendance of all the participants of the reading clubs of the Balearic Islands, among other guests.

In addition, on the occasion of this anniversary, a collaboration agreement will be established with the Network of Libraries of the Island Councils and other independent libraries so that they can programme the reading of the book Te deix, amor, la mar com a penyora. The batches of books and the activity sheet that the IEB will draw up to carry out this project will also be available from September onwards.

Finally, a collaboration with the painter Pep Llambias is planned for this year’s Nit de l’Art, which will also be held at the end of September. This will be a literary intervention in the exhibition of the Mallorcan artist, located in the building of the College of Architects of the Balearic Islands (COAIB).

The project contemplates the creation of a dialogue between the work of Riera and the art of Llambias, who often uses poetry and words in his compositions. The curator, Montse Torras, will design this dialogue with IEB technicians.

In addition to the events programmed in the calendar for the coming months, this April, on the occasion of Book Day, the presentation of the IEB’s Illes de Paraules collection on Tuesday 15th April saw the publication of a booklet from the collection: Una sombra blanca (A White Shadow) by Carme Riera. Illes de Paraules is a project of this institution that is a collection of booklets that contain the beginning of the work of authors from the Balearic Islands. These booklets are distributed on paper, with a reading activity proposal, to libraries, educational centres and organisations that request them.

The Catalan Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Jaume Bauzà, points out that “this Government firmly believes in the value of culture as a fundamental pillar of our identity and our future. Commemorating works such as Te deix, amor, la mar com a penyora by Carme Riera is a way of vindicating the key role of our culture”. Moreover, the director of the IEB, Llorenç Perelló, adds that ‘Riera’s contribution to our cultural heritage is indisputable, and it is for this reason that, continuing with the strategic objectives of this institution, from this government we have organised this celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Carme Riera’s best-known work’.
