A total of 13 young people from Dublin and 16 from Santa Maria, aged between 14 and 1,8, are taking part this year in the European Union’s Erasmus+ Youth exchange programme, managed by the Regional Ministry for Families and Social Affairs. They have been received at the Conselleria all of them, along with their respective monitors, by the councillor Catalina Cirer and the director of IBJOVE, Tomàs Amer. The event was also attended by the Mayor and the Councillor for Youth of the Santa Maria Town Council, Nicolau Canyelles and Maria Antònia Caimari.

The European Union’s Erasmus+ Youth exchange programme enables groups of young people from different European countries to carry out a fully subsidised exchange stay. This provides them with non-formal and acquired learning while they organise the meeting. Young people must be between 13 and 30 years old, and the stays must be for a maximum of 21 days.

The Regional Minister for Families and Social Affairs receives the 29 young people from Dublin and Santa Maria who are taking part in the EU’s Erasmus+ Youth exchange programme

It is an inclusive programme, as it aims to give all young people the same opportunities for non-formal learning and personal growth experiences. It also offers them funding so that, regardless of their economic, social or cultural preconditions, they can participate on equal terms.

In the case of the exchange between Santa Maria and Dublin, the Irish young people will spend a week on the island getting to know the culture of Mallorca and carrying out activities planned by the group of young people from Santa Maria. They, in turn, will do the same in Dublin next August. The young people and monitors of Santa Maria have chosen the theme of preserving the environment, culture and heritage.
