The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, is re-elected as head of the Alliance of Cultural Landscapes and Related World Heritage Sites
In this context, Galmés’ re-election represents a commitment to continuity, political momentum and the consolidation of the leading role that the Serra de Tramuntana, as a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape, has taken on within this network.
During these two years, the Consell de Mallorca has given a decisive boost to the Alliance, demanding greater political involvement of the member territories in decision-making. This leadership materialised in the 1st Political Meeting of the Alliance held in Aranjuez last January, which established the need to reinforce political commitment and strengthen networking between the member sites. Under the presidency of the Serra de Tramuntana, the Alliance has gained prominence, moving towards a more solid and cohesive structure.
Galmés stressed during his speech that “the Alliance is at a high point in its history, and we must know how to take advantage of it to continue to grow, strengthen our visibility and establish solid ties with other institutions. He also underlined the desire to ‘promote a plural board of directors, beyond ideologies, focused on the protection and promotion of cultural and natural heritage’.
The new board of directors, approved by consensus, incorporates three vice-presidents: Rodrigo Ruiz-Jiménez, director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife; Miguel Gómez, mayor of Aranjuez; and Inés Rey, mayoress of La Coruña. These vice-presidencies reinforce the plural and cooperative nature of the Alliance, integrating commitments in terms of heritage dissemination, international promotion and institutional cooperation.
Likewise, the mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, with Dólmenes de Antequera; the manager of Risco Caído and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria, Nieves González, and the managing director of Puente de Bizkaia, María Uriate, have been elected as members.
