The Consell de Mallorca will extend the rental contract for this facility to ensure that no users are left on the street following the closure announcement of the center managed by the association.
The Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) guarantees that the approximately 20 individuals currently residing at the centre managed by the altruistic association Es Refugi will continue receiving social care, support, and housing after the centre’s announced closure.

About a month ago, Es Refugi informed IMAS of its decision to permanently cease activities on April 30, after more than three decades of humanitarian service. From the beginning, IMAS activated a social monitoring system to assess each user’s situation and ensure personalised care and protection.
Moreover, to ensure the continuity of services, IMAS plans to extend the lease agreement for Es Refugi’s facility so that it can continue offering shelter to those currently accommodated there. This measure will prevent anyone from ending up on the street and will also allow for an orderly transition of services.
The president of IMAS and Minister of Social Welfare of the Consell de Mallorca, Guillermo Sánchez, expressed “sincere gratitude to Es Refugi for their committed and humanitarian work carried out over 32 years. They have been a fundamental pillar in the support network for the most vulnerable people on our island,” he said.
