The Minister of Tourism, Marcial Rodríguez, and the Minister of Economic Promotion, Pilar Amate, have signed a collaboration protocol to carry out joint actions aimed at promoting traditional island foods with differentiated quality.

The Consell de Mallorca will enhance the promotion of local and proximity products at major national and international tourism fairs. This initiative will highlight the uniqueness of Mallorcan gastronomy in the main tourism markets where Mallorca is represented.

To achieve this, the Departments of Tourism, Economic Promotion, and Local Development have signed a collaboration protocol through the Mallorca Tourism Foundation (Fundación Mallorca Turismo, FMT), which will be used to develop joint actions aimed at promoting the island’s artisan and traditional products with differentiated quality.

The Consell de Mallorca Will Promote the Dissemination of Local Products at Major National and International Tourism Fairs

The purpose of this protocol is to establish mechanisms for collaboration to jointly participate in tourism fairs and any other promotional events, such as tastings, exhibitions, culinary contests, and more, all focused on raising awareness of Mallorca’s local products.

The Minister of Tourism, Marcial Rodríguez, emphasised “the importance of initiatives like this one, which will further promote Mallorca’s local products and showcase the quality of our gastronomy in the main national and international markets.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, highlighted “the importance of joining efforts to strengthen the presence of Mallorca’s own products at tourism fairs, as well as at other events organised by the island institution.”
“We aim to establish collaboration links to foster and promote these products, and this action protocol will help standardise and facilitate the organisation of attendance at tourism events that we consider of interest. It will also enable closer ties between producers, distributors, the rural sector, and the final consumer,” Amate added.

Uniqueness of Mallorcan Products

Thus, the agreement will facilitate the management of the dissemination of products and ensure their origin, as they will be integrated into the various differentiated quality brands.

It is established that the products exhibited and offered at the fairs must exclusively belong to Regulatory Councils, such as those with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) or a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), guarantee marks, collective marks, or traditional foods. They must also be included in the quality brands list managed by the Institute for Agri-Food Quality of the Balearic Islands (IQUA).
