The Ministry of Equality condemns the gender-based murder of a woman in La Rioja. The victim, a 35-year-old woman, was allegedly killed by her partner last Friday, April 25. There had been no prior reports of gender-based violence filed against the alleged perpetrator.
This is the eleventh woman murdered due to gender-based violence in 2025. With the confirmation of this case, the number of women killed by gender-based violence in Spain rises to 1,305 since 2003, when official data collection began. The number of children orphaned by gender-based violence against their mothers stands at eight so far this year and 477 since 2013.

Equality Ministry Condemns the Gender-Based Murder of a Woman in La Rioja
The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate against Gender Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, have once again expressed their strongest condemnation and rejection of this act of gender-based violence, extending their full support to the victim’s family and friends. Both the Minister and the Delegate call for maximum efforts from institutions, administrations, and society to intervene in time and prevent further deaths.
The Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, reminds the public that the 016 helpline, online consultations via 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel at 600 000 016, and the online chat available at violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es operate 24/7. Through 016, advice can be requested on available resources and victims’ rights concerning all forms of violence against women, as well as legal advice available daily from 8 AM to 10 PM, provided in 53 languages and with services adapted for people with disabilities.
Furthermore, in case of an emergency, citizens are reminded that they can call 112, the National Police emergency number (091), or the Civil Guard emergency number (062). If making a phone call is not possible in a dangerous situation, the ALERTCOPS app can send a geolocated alert to the police.
These support services can be activated both by the victim and by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender-based violence. It is a duty shared by all of society.
