Endowed with €3 million and intended to continue annually, the call for applications will be published tomorrow in the BOIB, and interested municipalities may apply starting this Wednesday.

The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, visited the municipal care home in Muro today, accompanied by the President of the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS), Guillermo Sánchez, the IMAS Vice President, Magdalena García, and the Mayor of Muro, Miquel Porquer. During the visit, they announced that tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29, the new aid program from the Consell de Mallorca to finance municipal care homes will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands (BOIB).

Promoted by IMAS, this is the first financial aid line exclusively dedicated to subsidising part of the expenses of municipal residential centres. It will be endowed with €3 million, is designed to be permanent annually, and reinforces the Consell’s commitment to municipalities and elderly care.

The First-Ever Financial Aid Line to Support Municipal Care Homes

“Helping municipalities maintain essential services is a priority for this government, and for the first time, we are launching an economic line that will allow town councils to finance their municipal residences. This subsidy is an important step toward ensuring territorial equity and addressing a reality that often exceeds the capabilities of municipalities,” stated Galmés, who emphasised the importance of “working in networks to reach further and better.”

The call for applications, managed entirely by IMAS, will allow any town council that operates a municipal care home and has approved, in a plenary session, the transfer of management to IMAS to apply for this aid.

The President of IMAS, Guillermo Sánchez, highlighted that “this initiative marks a turning point for many small or medium-sized municipalities that, until now, have had to manage and finance their care homes on their own.” Sánchez added, “With this aid line, we reinforce the proximity model and dignify the care of the elderly where they wish to live: in their hometown.”

With this new program, the Consell de Mallorca commits to decentralising services and providing structural support to local governments, intending to build a broader, fairer, and more locally rooted residential care network.

Interested municipalities will have one month to apply through the Consell de Mallorca’s Electronic Headquarters, from this Wednesday, April 30, until Thursday, May 29.
