Balearic Islands Blood and Tissue Bank Foundation Holds Ceremony in Mallorca to Honour Its Donors

Health Minister highlights donors’ solidarity and encourages especially young people to give blood

43 individuals have made between 125 and 300 donations, setting a historic record in the Balearic Islands.

The Blood and Tissue Bank of the Balearic Islands (BSTIB) held a ceremony this Saturday in Mallorca to honour its blood donors and recognise all those who help save lives through their blood donations.

The event celebrated the dedication and consistency of blood donors who achieved major milestones in 2023 and 2024:

  • 808 people made more than 20 or 25 donations
  • 338 surpassed 40 or 50 donations
  • 130 reached 60 or 75
  • 42 individuals hit the 100-donation mark
  • And 43 donors exceeded between 125 and 300 donations, setting a historic record in the Balearic Islands.

During the event, Minister of Health Manuela García praised “the solidarity of Mallorca’s donors” and encouraged the public, especially younger generations, to donate, stating:

“Every day, in our hospitals, someone needs blood. Someone is waiting for help that can only come from others.”

BSTIB director Rosa Maria Tarragó emphasised the impact of blood donation:

“Donating blood is a silent yet powerful gesture. Each of your donations represents hope for many individuals and their families. You are the heart of this life-saving chain.”

The event was also attended by Elena Esteban, Director General of Public Health; Cristina Granados, Director of Son Espases University Hospital; and other regional authorities.
