Inclusive performances at the public venue nearly triple: the 2024/25 season will feature 17 accessible productions for deaf audiences, of which 7 will also be adapted for blind audiences.
The Consell de Mallorca is promoting the Teatre Principal de Palma as a benchmark for cultural accessibility on the island. The island’s institution reinforces its commitment to cultural inclusion by nearly tripling the number of inclusive performances at the public theatre, which will close the 2024/25 season with 17 productions accessible to people with hearing or visual disabilities, including 7 that will also be adapted for blind audiences.

The Consell de Mallorca Promotes Teatre Principal de Palma as a Cultural Accessibility Leader on the Island
The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, emphasised that “this initiative aims to create culture for everyone, which means transforming Teatre Principal into a cultural accessibility reference point in Mallorca.” In addition, the Vice President of the Consell and Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, outlined the measures implemented to guarantee accessibility in the theatre: “We have increased technical resources, trained our staff, and improved communication regarding accessibility measures so that audience members can clearly and effectively access this information.”
As Roca explained, communication improvements include updated signage with information about accessible performances, both online and at the box office, during the ticket purchase process. Staff have also received training to provide more personalised assistance.
Structurally, the theatre has also established criteria for priority seating for spectators with sensory disabilities, in addition to already designated spaces for people with reduced mobility and guide dogs.
The Director of Teatre Principal, Miquel Martorell, highlighted that “these measures have been made possible thanks to the collaboration of Apropa Cultura Balears, ONCE Balears, and ASPAS—leading organizations in cultural accessibility in Mallorca—who have advised the theatre over the past few months to ensure an inclusive experience for all audience members.”
