The presentation of the first edition of the award coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Sobrassada de Mallorca.
The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, has presented the first Sobrassada d’Or a l’Excel·lència Award of Mallorca to tennis coach Toni Nadal, during an institutional event that also marked the 30th anniversary of the PGI Sobrassada de Mallorca.
The Department of Economic Promotion and Local Development, in collaboration with the PGI Sobrassada de Mallorca, decided to grant this honorary award to Toni Nadal “in recognition of a person whose work and career represent the values of perseverance, excellence, commitment to quality, and deep connection to the land.”

The Consell de Mallorca Awards Toni Nadal the “Sobrassada d’Or a l’Excel·lència” Prize
The event was held at Can Tàpera, with the participation of the Councilor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate; the President of the Regulatory Council of the PGI Sobrassada de Mallorca, Andreu Palou; and the Island Director of Economic Promotion and Mallorca Products, Álvaro Roca, along with other representatives from institutions, agricultural organizations, quality labels, livestock farmers, and producers.
During the ceremony, President Galmés stated that “today’s celebration is a token of the Consell’s gratitude toward the PGI Sobrassada de Mallorca for its commitment to preserving the quality of one of this island’s most iconic products. It is also a recognition of prominent individuals like Toni Nadal, who, through their professional careers, have brought the name of Mallorca to every corner of the world.”
Councillor Amate added, “we launched this award to embody the values of a sector deeply rooted in the land, with perseverance and a strong commitment to product quality, preserving excellence.” She highlighted “the outstanding work of the Sobrassada de Mallorca Regulatory Council in promoting and safeguarding this product, respecting the quality of its raw materials and production processes, resulting in an extraordinarily high-quality sobrassada that has become a symbol of Mallorca’s culinary culture.”
The event concluded with a gastronomic showcase by five renowned chefs from the island: José Cortés, Miquel Serra, Kike Martí, Marga Brunet, and Cati Pons, who created a menu with sobrassada as the central ingredient. Their creations included: coca de xeixa with DOP Oli de Mallorca, Mallorcan-style vegetables, codfish with PGI Sobrassada de Mallorca, secreto pork rice with PGI Sobrassada de Mallorca from Porc Negre, and a sweet coca with Porreres apricots, PGI Sobrassada de Mallorca, and chocolate sauce.
