New Contract Approved to Strengthen Educational Support for Students with Neurodevelopmental Disorders
The service targets children enrolled in publicly funded schools in the Balearic Islands, from the second cycle of early childhood education through the end of second grade in primary education. The initiative focuses on prevention and early intervention, aiming to improve holistic development and foster educational inclusion for these students.
The contract has a tender budget of €1,213,962.75 (VAT included) for two academic years. It includes the possibility of a two-year extension and allows for upward modifications of up to 20%, with an estimated total value of €2,407,860.
With this new contract, the Balearic Islands will have a total of three UVAI services:
- One promoting neurodevelopment, focused on children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities, and/or communication and language disorders, as well as emotional and behavioural difficulties;
- One specialised in motor difficulties (UVAI DM);
- And one focused on auditory sensory difficulties (UVAI DSA).
Staff working in these units respond to requests for specialised educational support for students from schools across the Balearic Islands.
The UVAI provides support in assessing needs, designing educational strategies, collaborating with school operations, and offering guidance on emotional, behavioural, and social aspects. It also helps develop intervention methodologies and coordinates with both teaching and non-teaching staff to promote inclusion, participation, and learning among students with special educational needs.
