The Minister Attends the Inauguration of the Artwork in the Ibizan Municipality
A Project Funded by NextGenerationEU European Funds

The municipality of Sant Antoni de Portamany inaugurated on Wednesday the large-scale artwork Endless Rainbow Walk by internationally renowned artist Okuda San Miguel. The artistic intervention completely transforms the urban landscape of Santa Agnès Street in the heart of Sant Antoni and forms part of the Sustainable Tourism in Destinations Plans (PS TD), funded by NextGenerationEU European funds.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, who highlighted “the importance of projects like this to position the Balearic Islands as a benchmark in cultural and creative tourism, capable of attracting new visitor profiles and encouraging the diversification of the tourism offering.”

Bauzà Celebrates the Transformative Power of Art with Okuda’s Work in Sant Antoni

The art project, valued at €371,014.58, of which €220,000 was provided by European funding, transforms 160 meters of street into a symbolic carpet of over 1,000 m². It combines pavement painting, textile installation, and symbolic elements such as the iconic Estrella del Kaos. The work invites reflection on freedom, diversity, and shared creativity and has already become a new cultural and tourist landmark in central Sant Antoni.

Minister Bauzà emphasised “the essential role of art as a driver of urban regeneration, social cohesion, and tourism revitalisation—especially in areas committed to a new model based on quality, coexistence, and sustainability.”

The intervention is part of the Circularity Plan (PS TD) of the Balearic Islands and aligns with Sant Antoni City Council’s strategy to revitalise the town centre, reduce the impact of nightlife tourism, and boost commerce, dining, and daytime activity.

Artist Okuda San Miguel, who also attended the event, stated that this has been “the most ambitious pavement artwork of his career,” featuring a colour palette created specifically for the occasion and an innovative execution technique.

Through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Government of the Balearic Islands reaffirms its commitment to transforming the tourism model based on sustainability, creativity, and culture as central pillars of a more balanced and appealing future for both residents and visitors.
