This activity, now a tradition at the Sa Pobla centre, promotes socialisation, active ageing, and a connection with cultural roots.

The residents of Huialfàs care home celebrated their traditional pancaritat today at the oratory of Crestatx, accompanied by around thirty professionals from the centre. In attendance were the President of the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) and Minister of Social Welfare, Guillermo Sánchez; the Vice President of IMAS, Magdalena García; the Island Director of Socio-Health Care, Rosa Llobera; and the Island Director of Community Care and Promotion of Personal Autonomy, Catalina Maria Mascaró, who all wished to share this festive day with the residents and staff.

The pancaritat of the Huialfàs residence is one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the centre’s annual calendar. It has become an activity that fosters social relationships, contact with nature, and the continuation of cultural traditions among the elderly.

“Sharing this day with the residents is a way to acknowledge the importance of keeping alive the traditions that connect us to our personal and collective history,” emphasized Guillermo Sánchez. “These types of activities not only contribute to the emotional well-being of older adults but also strengthen community ties and a sense of belonging,” he added.

For her part, IMAS Vice President Magdalena García praised the work of the professional teams: “The work done every day by the Huialfàs care home staff is exemplary. Activities like this are only possible thanks to their dedication, involvement, and care for the residents.”

Located in the heart of Sa Pobla’s town center, the Huialfàs residence is a public IMAS facility that follows a person-centered care model. The center currently offers 46 public places for elderly people in situations of dependency. It is part of the Council of Mallorca’s resource network, which aims to guarantee high-quality, close-at-hand care for this population group.

In addition to the pancaritat, Huialfàs regularly organizes activities to promote cognitive stimulation, autonomy, and emotional well-being among residents. Notable among these initiatives is a program of therapeutic baths held at Sa Pobla’s sports center in heated water, which promotes mobility, relaxation, and self-esteem. Memory workshops, music sessions, festive celebrations, and intergenerational activities are also held, all aimed at offering an active, fulfilling life connected to the community.

Another major event on the annual calendar is the celebration of Sant Antoni, which is enjoyed with great enthusiasm. During the evening party held at the residence, both residents and staff participate in festivities featuring devils, live music, grilled food, and a deeply “pobler” atmosphere adapted to the residents’ needs and schedules. This activity reinforces cultural identity and shared joy within the center, making it a vibrant space rooted in the town’s traditions.
