Culture Pays Tribute to Josep Maria Llompart on the Centennial of His Birth

In an official ceremony held at noon at Ca n’Oleo, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, emphasized the continued relevance of Llompart’s legacy: “His poetry, full of beauty and commitment, goes hand in hand with his tireless work as an editor, essayist, translator, and cultural activist. Llompart understood that culture is not a luxury, but a tool for cohesion and growth.”

Bauzà also expressed his wish for Any Llompart to be “much more than a commemoration: I want it to be a collective starting point—for everyone—on a path of beauty, community, and pride. A reminder that we have a rich history and a future full of challenges.”

The ceremony was presented by writer Gabriel Janer Manila, and students from IES Josep Maria Llompart performed a poetry recital.

In the evening, the central cultural event will take place at Teatre del Mar in Palma, starting at 8:00 p.m. The show, titled Els mots que m’han duit al poble (“The Words That Brought Me to the Village”), pays tribute to Llompart’s life and work. The event will be attended by the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, and Minister Bauzà, among other officials.

Josep Maria Llompart (Palma, 1925–1993) was a poet, essayist, editor, literary critic, and a staunch defender of the Catalan language and culture. Over his lifetime, he stood out both for his literary production and for his political and cultural commitment, establishing himself as one of the most influential intellectual voices in the Balearic Islands.

The Any Llompart programme features a wide range of literary, educational, and artistic activities throughout the year, aimed at bringing his work closer to new generations and deepening the understanding of his impact on culture.
