President Llorenç Galmés and Vice President and Minister of Culture and Heritage Antònia Roca visited the Church of La Sang this Friday to oversee the restoration and conservation work being carried out by the company Tracer SL.
This initiative marks the beginning of the restoration of one of the most treasured elements of Mallorca’s historical and cultural heritage. The restoration work, which started in April, puts an end to more than ten years of neglect and deterioration.

Restoration Works Begin on the Historic Nativity Scene of La Sang
“We are very pleased that the restoration of the Nativity scene of La Sang has finally begun. After a decade of abandonment, this project was urgent and essential. Our government team was clear that recovering such a beloved part of our heritage had to be a top priority,” stated Galmés.
The restoration contract was awarded to the joint venture between Tracer Conservación y Restauración SL and Carlos Sánchez Gómez, a company with extensive experience in the conservation of cultural assets.
This project focuses on Europe’s oldest Neapolitan-style nativity scene, declared a Cultural Asset of Interest (BIC) in 2003. It has a budget of €400,000 and an estimated duration of fifteen months.
Currently, the team of restorers is working on the initial phase, which includes:
- Historical and photographic documentation.
- 3D scans of the main figures.
- Ultraviolet (UV) light analysis to detect surface alterations.
- Solubility tests and cleaning trials on selected elements.
