The number of women murdered due to gender-based violence rose to 12 in 2025 and 1,306 since 2003.
The latest victim is a 38-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her partner today, May 27. There were no prior reports of gender-based violence against the suspected perpetrator. The victim had a minor child.
With the confirmation of this case, the total number of women murdered due to gender-based violence stands at 12 so far in 2025 and 1,306 since 2003, the year when official records began.

Ministry of Equality Condemns the Gender-Based Murder of a Woman in the Province of Cáceres
The number of minors orphaned due to gender-based violence against their mothers stands at 9 in 2025 and 478 since 2013.
The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate for Gender-Based Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, have once again expressed their strongest condemnation and rejection of this femicide and extended their full support to the victim’s family and friends. Both the Minister and the Delegate call for continued efforts from institutions, public administrations, and society as a whole to act in time and prevent more deaths.
The Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation for Gender-Based Violence, reminds the public that the helpline 016, email consultations at 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel at 600 000 016, and the online chat available at violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es are all operational 24 hours a day, every day of the week. The 016 line offers information on available resources and victims’ rights for all forms of violence against women, including legal advice from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with services offered in 53 languages and support for persons with disabilities.
In case of emergency, individuals can call 112, or the emergency lines of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). If making a phone call is not possible and the person is in danger, they can use the ALERTCOPS app, which sends an alert to the police with geolocation.
These support services can be activated by the victim or by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender-based violence. Combating this issue is a duty of all society.
