Senior citizens in Mallorca may apply until June 27 for financial assistance covering the cost of mobility and technical support equipment.
Residents of Mallorca aged 65 and over can apply for individual financial aid offered by the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS), aimed at covering expenses incurred between April and December 2024 for the purchase of assistive products. These include technical aids (such as hearing aids, glasses, dental prostheses) and mobility devices (such as wheelchairs, adapted beds, or walkers, among others).
The Consell de Mallorca, through IMAS, has allocated up to €375,000 for this round of aid, which can be requested until June 27 (inclusive). The initiative aims to “promote the well-being, autonomy, and quality of life of the island’s elderly population,” stated Guillermo Sánchez, Minister of Social Welfare and President of IMAS. He added, “We know these grants are highly anticipated, and our goal is to ensure no one who needs them is left out. That’s why, although the initial allocation is €275,000, we are prepared to extend it by an additional €100,000 if demand requires.”

Specifically, the aid covers the cost of equipment that helps with physical or sensory recovery for people aged 65 or older who have been officially registered in Mallorca for at least two years. The aim is to address or complement functional limitations, facilitate daily life, and enhance both quality of life and social well-being.
To assist with the application process, IMAS has made a specialised team available to provide in-person support, answering questions related to the application and reviewing required documentation before submission. This service is offered Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the IMAS Citizen Service Office located on Pere Dezcallar i Nieto Street in Palma—no appointment is required.
