Discovering the behind-the-scenes secrets and filming process of the movie “Es Gegant des Vedrà“, as well as the folk tales that inspired it, is the goal of the new exhibition hosted at Sa Nostra Sala from Thursday, May 29, to June 14.
Titled Es gegant des de dins (The Giant from Within), the exhibition features photographs by Toni Planells taken during the filming of the movie directed by Héctor Escandell. The film was shot in various locations around Ibiza between October 2021 and July 2023, with most scenes set in the 19th century. The production paid meticulous attention to costumes and set design, recreating a legendary version of the island.
Visitors to the exhibition will not only enjoy large-format photographs but also step into authentic sets used in the film, be intrigued by The Curse of the Giant (“La Maledicció des Gegant”), and experience some interactive surprises.
Throughout the exhibition, guests can also learn in depth about the three traditional Ibizan tales that inspired the movie: Nit de Tots Sants (All Saints’ Night), Ses Calaveres de Can Fita (The Skulls of Can Fita), and Es Gegant des Vedrà (The Giant of Vedrà). A section is also dedicated to Joan Castelló Guasch, the Ibizan folklorist who collected and preserved the oral traditions of the island in his published works.

The Secrets Behind the Filming of Es Gegant des Vedrà Unveiled at Sa Nostra Sala
As Miquel Costa, the island’s Director of Culture, explained, the exhibition—built with diverse materials and some pieces created specifically for the film—“offers a five-senses journey in search of Ibiza’s magical essence through the tales of Joan Castelló Guasch.”
The exhibition is designed for audiences of all ages and offers “a new way to discover Ibizan folk stories and see how they were brought to life by the team led by Pablo Alcántara of Pauxa Films.”
Film director Héctor Escandell added: “This exhibition allows visitors to experience firsthand the creative process behind the movie and learn about the challenges we faced during production. It was an honour to lead this project, and we hope it reaches audiences beyond our borders.”
The film, supported financially by the Department of Culture of the Consell Insular d’Eivissa, will be screened again in Ibiza cinemas starting June 6. It was co-directed by Héctor Escandell and Pablo Alcántara, with set design by Adrián Cardona, Antonio Lemos, and Susana Cardona. The exhibition is curated by Ana Olivia Fiol.
The opening will take place on Wednesday, May 28, at 8:00 PM. It will remain open to the public until June 14, with visiting hours from Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
