More than 200 people over the age of 60 have taken part in this initiative throughout May, distributed across four travel groups.

The Consell de Mallorca concludes this Friday the first edition of the cultural trips to Menorca for people over 60 years old—a pioneering initiative financed 75% by the island institution. The program has been very well received and enabled 216 participants to enjoy a cultural, heritage, and social experience on the neighbouring island.

The Minister of the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, joined the final group on their last day. He shared with them a visit to La Mola Fortress, a guided tour through the historic centre of Maó, and a group lunch where he exchanged impressions with attendees. Also present were the Vice President and Minister of Social Welfare of the Consell Insular de Menorca, Carmen Reynés, and the Island Director for the Elderly, Dependency, and Functional Diversity, Melissa Manota.

Antoni Fuster stated: “This program has clearly shown that our seniors are eager to participate, discover, and remain active. The success of this first edition encourages us to continue promoting proposals that combine culture, territory, and well-being.”

The program ran throughout May in four travel groups (from May 6 to 9, 13 to 16, 20 to 23, and 27 to 30) and included a full itinerary with visits to emblematic sites such as the Es Grau wetlands, the Favàritx lighthouse, the Es Tudons naveta, Fornells, the Cavalleria lighthouse, Mount Toro, La Mola Fortress, and the cities of Ciutadella and Maó. Participants also enjoyed culinary tastings, guided tours, and shared free time.

This initiative is part of the Consell de Mallorca’s sociocultural promotion plan, which includes other programs aimed at seniors, such as hotel stays, the Line Dancing Day, and the Seniors’ Fair.

Specifically, next week the Consell de Mallorca has organised three senior choir gatherings. These will take place at the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre in Palma on June 2 and 3, and at the Llucmajor cloister on June 5. These events will bring together 17 senior choir associations from across Mallorca to encourage social participation, strengthen community bonds, and promote music as a tool for well-being and collective expression.
