This June, the Claustre de Sant Domingo will once again become the stage for the second edition of ‘Veus. Contemporary Playwriting Cycle’. This year’s edition will take place over two consecutive Saturdays—June 7 and 14—with a program that brings together a variety of theatrical styles and formats.

“We are committed to a vibrant, socially engaged culture rooted in our territory—one that connects with audiences through emotion and thought,” stated Alice Weber, Inca’s Councillor for Culture.

The plays scheduled for the first weekend invite the audience to reflect on past and present through themes of memory, identity, history, and dialogue. Meanwhile, on Saturday, June 14, two performances will showcase the diversity of theatrical expression through a journey across the different rooms of the Claustre de Sant Domingo.

On the first day, June 7 at 8:00 p.m., Inca will host “Z/B. Zweig/Bernanos”, a work by Jaume Capó set in February 1942, during the height of Nazi power in World War II. At 9:30 p.m., the performance of “Guaret” will follow, a piece written and performed by Pedro Mas and Joana Castell. This autobiographical theatrical journey explores the cultural uprooting felt by someone born in Mallorca who reaches adulthood with the unsettling feeling of not belonging anywhere.

Then, on Saturday, June 14, the first performance will be “La distància. Memory Capsules” by Tolo Ferrà. This multidisciplinary and original production combines real testimonies, visual poetry, dramatic texts, audiovisual animation, original music, and poetry, offering a powerful reflection on the 2020 lockdown experience. A total of six showings will be offered between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Simultaneously, between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., two micro-theatre performances will take place: “El retorn d’Ilsa”, a comedy by Josep Mercadal that presents a feminist, updated reimagining of Casablanca’s most iconic moment; and “Na Catalina de ses Gerres”, a zany play inspired by the traditional Mallorcan folk tale of the same name, written by Joan Bennàssar.
