President Prohens Highlights the Value of Traditional Crafts and Local Artisan Production with the Revival of the BaleArt Fair

The President of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, inaugurated the fair this morning at Parc de la Mar, accompanied by the Minister of Enterprise, Employment and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, and representatives from all the island councils, among other officials.

The Ministry of Enterprise, Employment and Energy, through the Regional Development Agency of the Balearic Islands (ADR Balears), organised the fair in collaboration with the island councils of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

President Prohens highlighted the importance of showcasing the process behind each piece created by certified artisans. The aim is for the public to understand the effort involved in each creation and how artisans have integrated design as a tool for innovation while maintaining their traditional skills.

For this reason, BaleArt features a comprehensive program of live demonstrations where visitors can discover various trades such as chair caning, esparto weaving, embroidery, clay whistle making, leather harness making, and net weaving, with artisans coming from Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza.

The fair brings together around forty artisans from Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza, representing twelve artisan families. They will exhibit and sell their products, which range from pottery and ceramics, glasswork, wood, leather, basketry, textiles, lace, and metalwork. All works are certified by the respective island councils with official artisan or master artisan credentials, attesting to the authenticity of their craft.

Admission to the fair, held at Parc de la Mar until Sunday, June 8, is free. The schedule, exhibitor list, and demonstration agenda are available at www.firabaleart.es.
