President Galmés welcomes fifty hearing-impaired students from La Purísima School during a guided tour of the Palau del Consell, which now features induction loops and sign language interpretation services.
The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, welcomed today a group of special education students and participants from the occupational centre of La Purísima School, who visited the Palau del Consell as part of the institution’s guided tour program. Also in attendance were the Minister of Social Welfare and President of IMAS, Guillermo Sánchez, and the Island Director for People with Disabilities, Maria Francesca Rigo.
During the visit, the fifty participating students, some of whom use hearing aids, cochlear implants, or communicate in sign language, were accompanied by sign language interpreters provided by IMAS. Thanks to the recently acquired induction loop systems, they were able to follow the explanations with clear sound, free of interference or echo, significantly improving the accessibility of public activities.

The Consell de Mallorca Moves Forward in Breaking Barriers and Opening Up to Everyone
President Galmés emphasised that “opening the doors of the Consell to all citizens is a priority, but ensuring that everyone, without exception, can participate on equal terms is even more important.” He added, “Initiatives like this are essential to continue progressing toward a more inclusive and accessible Mallorca.”
Guillermo Sánchez praised “the Consell’s efforts to adapt spaces and activities to meet the needs of all individuals, especially those with functional diversity,” and stressed the importance of “making these realities visible and continuing to break down barriers.”
The guided tours of the Palau del Consell aim to introduce visitors to the institution’s operations and history. These tours, which are open to schools and other groups, include visits to emblematic areas such as the plenary chamber, the presidential office, and other historic parts of the building.
The Consell de Mallorca offers tailored visits for groups with specific needs, supported by resources such as induction loops, sign language interpreters, and other tools to ensure full accessibility. Educational centres, organisations, or groups interested in participating can submit a request through the official website of the Consell de Mallorca.
