The Ministry of Education and Universities’ project includes the construction of 6 classrooms and 2 workshops, with an investment of nearly 2 million euros
The construction period is expected to last 12 months from the start of the works

The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, presented the expansion works at the Marc Ferrer Secondary School (IES Marc Ferrer) in Formentera. The event was also attended by the Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera; the President of the Consell of Formentera, Óscar Portas; the Territorial Director of Education for Ibiza and Formentera, Juan Álvarez; and the Manager of IBISEC, Marco Alarcón. They were welcomed by the school’s principal, Jaume Ferrer.

President of the Balearic Government Presents Expansion Works at IES Marc Ferrer in Formentera

The project has a contract value of €1,983,842.37 and includes the expansion of the building with eight new teaching spaces (six classrooms and two workshops). These new areas will be located on the east wing of the first floor and will include the installation of a new staircase and elevator to improve access throughout the building.

This expansion responds to the growing needs of Formentera’s educational community, allowing for a better spatial distribution and ensuring optimal conditions for learning. It will also enable the removal of the two modular classrooms currently in use at the school.

The work, awarded to Citanias Obras y Servicios, S.L.U., has a projected completion time of 12 months and forms part of the Illes en Transformació strategy — a key initiative of the Government of the Balearic Islands aimed at renewing and strengthening public infrastructure, with special emphasis on education. It represents a strong commitment to ensuring modern, dignified, and functional educational spaces suited to today’s needs.

The expansion of IES Marc Ferrer is included in the Educational Investment Plan developed by the Ministry of Education and Universities. This same plan, within the Illes en Transformació initiative, also includes other actions such as the expansion of CEIP El Pilar and the complete renovation of CEIP Mestre Lluís Andreu.
