Flashing 30 km/h speed limit signs are being reinforced, elevated pedestrian crossings are being installed, and drainage is being improved to prevent road flooding.

The Consell de Mallorca has begun work to install new signage along the Santa Eugènia thoroughfare. The goal is to reduce vehicle speed and better regulate traffic intensity on the municipality’s main street. These improvements were requested by residents and were promised by the Consell in March following several meetings between the residents, the Santa Eugènia Town Council, and the Department of Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures, led by Councillor Fernando Rubio and Island Director Rafel Gelabert.

Mallorca Council Begins New Signage Works to Reduce Speed and Regulate Traffic in Santa Eugènia

The intervention aims to reinforce signage along the Ma-3040 road crossing through Santa Eugènia, improving road safety, especially for those living in the town centre.

DETAILS OF THE PROJECT

At the entrance to Santa Eugènia, both from the Sencelles and Sineu roads, new speed limit signs will be installed: 70 km/h, then 50 km/h, and finally 30 km/h. These signs will feature a fluorescent yellow background and will be placed on both sides of the road.

Vehicles arriving from Sencelles will encounter a radar speed display device after passing the limit signs. The Town Council will install and maintain this device. At kilometre 0.5, near the Vinya Taujana winery, there is a heavily used pedestrian crossing by locals and visitors from the Siloé centre. This crossing will be elevated and marked with yellow background signs for approaching traffic. A current 40 km/h speed limit sign at house number 26 will be replaced by a 30 km/h sign, and a matching sign will be placed on the opposite lane for incoming traffic.

Near the intersection with Bisbe Sastre Street, another pedestrian crossing will be elevated and equipped with yellow background signage on both sides. Around the former house number 15, 30 km/h limit signs will be placed on both sides of the road. At the start of the uphill section of s’Aljub Street, there is a pedestrian crossing over cobblestones. Although it cannot be elevated, yellow background signs will be added on both sides.

At kilometre 3, additional 30 km/h limit signs will be placed on each side. At the upper end of Aljub Street, near the intersection with Josep Balaguer and des Puget Streets, a pedestrian crossing will be moved back a few meters. The Town Council will also install a sidewalk railing on Josep Balaguer Street. The crossing will be elevated and marked with yellow background signs. Downhill on Aljub Street, 40 km/h signs will be replaced with 30 km/h signs. At the crossing near the pharmacy, signage will be placed on both sides of the road. Finally, the entrance to the urban area from the Sineu road will follow the same sequence of signs as those from the Sencelles road.
