The Teatro Principal Closes the 39th Opera Season with Donizetti’s Don Pasquale
The Vice President of the Consell de Mallorca and Minister of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, attended the presentation of the operatic production and emphasised the importance of this work, which was originally premiered in Paris in 1843 and selected to close the season at the Teatro Principal:
“We are premiering Don Pasquale, an opera that not only brings freshness and dynamism through its romantic entanglements but also offers the audience a chance to enjoy Donizetti’s masterful music. A production that promises a brilliant finale to an unforgettable season.”
Don Pasquale is one of the most celebrated comic operas in the classical repertoire. The story is a romantic comedy full of intrigue, in which Don Pasquale wants to marry his nephew to a wealthy woman, while the young man wishes to marry his beloved Norina, a poor and spirited young woman.
The cast includes baritone Pablo Ruiz as Don Pasquale, baritone Milan Perisic as Doctor Malatesta, tenor Juan de Dios Mateos as Ernesto, soprano Veronica Granatiero as Norina, and bass Joan Miquel Muñoz as Carlotto. They will be joined by the Teatro Principal Chorus, directed by Francesc Bonnín, and the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra. Andrea Borelli will be in charge of lighting; Juan Guillermo Nova will oversee set design; Luca Dall’Alpi will design the costumes; and Michele Consentino will serve as choreographer and assistant director, completing the artistic team.
This will be the first time that this opera, first premiered in Paris in 1843, is performed as part of the Teatro Principal’s Opera Season.
