June 13, 2025. The Consell of Ibiza, together with the Ibiza City Council, has launched the Summer Calendar of Fruits and Vegetables of Ibiza to promote local produce. The calendar was officially presented this morning at the Mercat Pagès in Ibiza, located on Abel Matutes Juan Boulevard, to help consumers identify the optimal seasonal periods for consuming fruits and vegetables grown in Ibiza. The event was attended by Joan Marí, Island Director of Rural and Marine Environment; Alex Minchiotti, City Councillor for Trade and Markets; and Pep Planells, a producer from the Murtera family and representative of the Mercat Pagès.

The Consell of Ibiza and the Ibiza City Council Present the Summer Calendar of Fruits and Vegetables of Ibiza
The presentation was accompanied by a tasting of seasonal products prepared by Sabors d’Eivissa, a quality label awarded by the Consell of Ibiza, led by chef Marga Orell.
Joan Marí highlighted that “this is a very busy time for local farmers; many of the crops were planted in winter, and thanks to the recent rainfall, we now have an excellent summer harvest. We have sweet, juicy fruits and vegetables full of flavour—perfect for the summer season. We encourage everyone to buy local products, as they are healthy, good for the island’s economy, and help keep our countryside alive. Where can we find them? In neighbourhood shops, the ones we’ve always known, located throughout Ibiza, where residents appreciate them, and increasingly, so do visitors.”
City Councillor Alex Minchiotti also encouraged citizens to support seasonal and local (Km 0) products: “especially when it comes to fruits and vegetables. The city’s markets—the Mercat Pagès, Mercat Nou, and Mercat Vell—offer a great opportunity to buy these products with the trust and proximity that our local markets provide. With this calendar, we take another step forward in raising awareness, not only about the importance of maintaining a healthy and balanced diet, but also about knowing which fresh, seasonal products are available at any given time. This promotes consumption and strengthens our markets.”
With the arrival of summer, Ibiza’s farmland enters peak production. Fruits and vegetables such as melons, red potatoes, watermelons, tomatoes, apricots, eggplants, onions, peppers, and traditional varieties such as red onion, meló eriçó (a local melon), and white pepper are already filling market stalls and store displays.
The summer calendar has been created to help consumers identify the best season for each product, thus promoting local, high-quality consumption. The calendar will be distributed to all municipal markets in Ibiza, as well as to traditional retailers that support local products, such as s’Hort Nou.
The Mercat Pagès, now located in a new, more visible and accessible location, is managed by the Murtera family and is expected to grow with new vendors. This initiative highlights Ibiza’s agricultural production, especially during the summer season when demand increases due to tourism. It reinforces local fruits and vegetables as a distinctive, high-quality offering.
