The Councillor for the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, has announced the creation of a new line of grants and the first Island Coordination Board during a meeting with social organisations that support women in situations of prostitution.

Today, the Consell de Mallorca has presented, for the first time, a public call for grants aimed at non-profit organisations that carry out care and support projects for individuals involved in prostitution in the Part Forana (rural areas outside Palma) of the island. The announcement was made during a working meeting between Antoni Fuster, Councillor for the Presidency, and Ana Ferriol, Island Director of Families, as well as representatives from organisations working directly in the field.

Mallorca Council Launches First-Ever Support Grants for Women in the Context of Prostitution in the Part Forana

This pioneering initiative by the institution has a total budget of €100,000. The projects must aim to provide comprehensive care for individuals in or at risk of prostitution, as well as raise social awareness about this issue. Organisations applying for these grants must develop initiatives that address prevention, initial outreach to women involved in prostitution, personal and professional development programs, psychosocial support, and access to educational, healthcare, or housing resources.

In addition, the proposed actions are expected to include identifying cases of risk or exploitation and drafting a report to enhance understanding of the prostitution context in the Part Forana.

During the meeting with the organisations, Councillor Fuster emphasised that these grants represent only the first step in a firm commitment by the Consell to address this issue. He highlighted that this is the first time the island’s institution has allocated specific resources to help these women—a measure focused exclusively on the Part Forana to complement the work already carried out by Palma City Council.

Fuster stressed that “from the Consell de Mallorca, we want to help pave real and effective paths for these women, offering alternatives that not only lend a hand, but also walk alongside them toward a life with more rights, more opportunities, and more freedom to choose their future.”

In this regard, the creation of the first Island Coordination Board was also agreed upon. This board will facilitate a deeper understanding of the prostitution situation in the various municipalities of Mallorca and enhance coordination among the different stakeholders involved. The proposal is for this Board to include participation from social organisations, local councils, healthcare services, law enforcement, and other local professionals. The inclusion of IB-Dona was also considered, as a supra-insular body with authority in matters of human trafficking. While not all prostitution cases are directly linked to trafficking, there can be an overlap in certain circumstances.

The goal is to share identified needs, exchange information, coordinate efforts taking place in each municipality, and establish synergies between administrations and organizations to make more efficient use of available resources.

The call for applications will be published in the BOIB (Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands) on June 19, with a deadline of twenty working days from the day after publication to submit applications.
