Applications for 2025–2026 School Meal Grants Open on Monday, June 23

These grants are aimed at students in preschool, primary, and compulsory secondary education, as well as those enrolled in basic vocational training or transition-to-adult-life programs. The goal is to ensure that children and young people in need have equitable access to school lunch services.

The Ministry of Education and Universities has earmarked a budget of €9,777,000 for the 2025–2026 school year, which is expected to fund approximately 13,000 school meal grants. This investment reaffirms the government’s commitment to supporting low-income families and promoting educational continuity.

Families will be required to submit documentation proving their socioeconomic status. Once the application period ends, schools will review and forward the requests to the Ministry, which will then publish a provisional resolution.

In addition, the Ministry is allocating €500,000 for food assistance for the 2025–2026 school year. This funding is intended for students at public secondary schools who do not have access to a school meal service. Applications for these food assistance grants can be submitted from Thursday, June 26, to Sunday, July 7.
