According to data from Turespaña, 10.5 million international air passengers arrived in Spain in May 2025, reflecting a 5.4% increase compared to May 2024. From January to May, Spain welcomed 41.3 million international travellers, a 6.9% increase year-on-year.
Most source markets saw growth, except Germany, while Gulf countries, China, South Korea, and Turkey showed strong upward trends. The UK led with 2.5 million passengers (23.9% of the total), favouring the Balearic Islands (25%) and Canary Islands (21%). The Basque Country and Galicia saw year-on-year increases of over 30%.

International Air Passengers to Spain Surpass 10.5 Million in May, Marking a 5.4% Year-on-Year Growth
Germany contributed 1.4 million travellers (13.8%) but registered a 2.3% decline, with drops in Baleares (-7.4%), Canary Islands, and Madrid. Italy accounted for 9.4% of arrivals (up 11.1%), benefiting most regions except Galicia. The Basque Country posted a notable 48% rise.
France represented 7.7% of May arrivals, growing 5.6%, with Catalonia and Madrid leading, but the Balearic Islands showed the strongest expansion. The Netherlands contributed 4.9%, increasing 6.7%, with most travellers headed to Catalonia and the Valencian Community.
Regional and Airport Highlights
The six main destinations—Madrid, Catalonia, Baleares, Canary Islands, Andalusia, and the Valencian Community—accounted for 96.9% of all arrivals, all showing positive growth. Andalusia led with a 10.6% increase, while Baleares grew slightly by 0.8%.
- Catalonia received the most passengers (21.1%).
- Madrid led among traditional airlines (42.4%).
- The Valencian Community posted the highest growth in traditional airline traffic (11.7%).
At the airport level:
- Madrid-Barajas received 2.19 million passengers (+3.1%).
- Barcelona welcomed 1.9 million (+5.9%).
- Palma saw 1.5 million, with a slight drop of 0.2%.
- Valencia Airport recorded the highest growth (+12.2%), followed by Seville (+12.1%).
