This service is essential for the Balearic Islands due to their insular nature and the appeal of their natural surroundings, the President emphasised.

The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, has announced the signing of an agreement with the Directorate-General of the Guardia Civil to provide the Islands with a medicalised helicopter for mountain and cave rescues.

This agreement addresses a long-standing need shared by society, emergency professionals, and rescue services. Thanks to the agreement, SAMU 061 emergency medical personnel, specifically trained for high-risk interventions, will be permanently integrated into the Guardia Civil’s mountain rescue teams, led by their specialised units.

The agreement was presented in Sa Calobra, during a mountain rescue simulation carried out by the Guardia Civil’s Mountain Rescue Unit. The event was also attended by Minister of Health Manuela García, Minister of Presidency and Public Administration Antònia Estarellas, and the Spanish Government Delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, among others.

“This agreement represents a very important step forward. Because now, in the event of an emergency, an accident in the mountains, or the need for urgent medical transport, we know we will be able to act more quickly and effectively,” stated President Prohens.

Prohens also highlighted the importance of collaboration and coordination between institutions and reaffirmed the Balearic Government’s commitment to providing all necessary resources in service of what matters most: the safety and protection of the people of the Balearic Islands.
