The Symphony Orchestra Kicks Off the Bellver Festival 2025 This Thursday, June 26, with Works by Beethoven and Schumann
This week, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 9:30 PM, the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra will present the opening concert of the Bellver Festival 2025. Under the baton of Pablo Mielgo, the OSIB will perform Beethoven’s Leonore Overture and Piano Concerto No. 4, along with Schumann’s Symphony No. 4. For this special occasion, the orchestra will be joined by acclaimed international pianist Denis Kozhukhin, who will interpret Beethoven’s masterpiece. The Bellver Festival 2025 features four concerts scheduled from June 26 to July 17, 2025. The Symphony Orchestra remains a key cultural and tourist institution, presenting internationally recognised performances in the unique setting of Bellver Castle. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through the Symphony’s official website: www.simfonicadebalears.com.
The concert will begin with a program centred on Beethoven. One of the most famous overtures from his only opera, Fidelio—the Leonore Overture—will open the evening. Before the intermission, audiences will enjoy Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, one of his most innovative works, reflecting the composer’s maturity, balance, and lyricism. The performance will feature pianist Denis Kozhukhin.
Winner of the First Prize at the 2010 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, Belgian pianist Denis Kozhukhin has established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation. He has performed with many of the world’s top orchestras, including the Chicago, London, and San Francisco symphonies; the Israel, London, and Rotterdam philharmonics; the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Philharmonia Orchestra. Kozhukhin is also a regular guest at renowned festivals such as Verbier, Gstaad, Grafenegg, Dresden, Intonations, Tsinandali, Klavier Ruhr, Lanaudière, the Jerusalem Festival, and the BBC Proms.
The festival’s opening concert will conclude with Schumann’s Symphony No. 4—a vivid example of Romantic symphonic music that takes the listener through an intense emotional landscape of nostalgia and energy.
