The farewell ceremony for forty-two healthcare residents who completed their training entirely at or with Son Llàtzer University Hospital as their reference centre was held today.

Between July and September 2025, twenty-one medical specialists from the Hospital’s Teaching Commission will graduate. Alongside their peers from the multidisciplinary units in Mental Health, Occupational Health, Geriatrics, Paediatrics, and Family and Community Care, they make up a total of 42 newly accredited specialists.

Forty-Two Residents Complete Their Specialised Training at Son Llàtzer University Hospital

The event was attended by Soledad Gallardo, Manager of Son Llàtzer University Hospital; Dr. Marilisa Molina and Dr. Félix Hidalgo on behalf of the Medical Subdirectorate; Dr. Vicente Juan, Director General of Training; Dr. Antoni Figuerola, President of the Teaching Commission; Dr. Joan Bargay, President of the Research Committee; Dr. Sala, representative of Mutual Médica; and the heads of studies for each speciality.

These professionals have spent between four and five years in training—depending on the speciality—preparing to become future specialists. During their residency, they had the opportunity to rotate through different departments, gaining a comprehensive view of the hospital’s operations.

During the same event, organised by the Teaching Commission, the Training and Research Awards for residents were presented. These awards recognise two of the best research projects and two of the best general sessions. They are made possible through the collaboration with Mutual Médica, established a few years ago via an agreement between both institutions.

In the Best General Session category, the first prize went to Dr. Joaquín Monteagudo Rodríguez from the Pulmonology Department for his session titled “Debunking Myths about Electronic Cigarettes.” The second prize was awarded to Dr. Ana Bolón and Dr. Francisco Cámara from the Psychiatry Department for their session “Medical Approach to Neurodiversity.”

In the Best Research Project category, the first prize was awarded to Dr. Cristina Andreu Febrer from the Paediatrics Department for her project “Umbilical Cord Blood Culture as an Alternative to Peripheral Blood Culture in the Neonatal Period.” The second prize went to Dr. Elena Sol García, also from the Paediatrics Department, for her project “Implementation and Evaluation of AI as a Tool to Improve Medical Care.”

During the award ceremony, the researchers briefly presented the key aspects of their work.
