President Galmés Visits the Construction Works of the Ses Ramones Sports Centre in Colònia de Sant Jordi, Funded by European Funds
Galmés recalled that this cooperation agreement between the municipality and the island institution was signed last year and highlighted its importance, as it will “respond to the high demand for sports tourism in the area, as well as the potential to reduce seasonality in this segment.”
This initiative forms part of the broader Mallorca Living Sustainable Hub III project under the 2023 PSTD call, comprising four actions with a total allocated budget of €8.49 million. The main action is being carried out at the existing Ses Ramones sports facility in the Mallorcan municipality of Ses Salines, specifically in Colònia de Sant Jordi.
Following sustainability criteria and improving existing infrastructure, the actions will be carried out within the municipally-owned sports grounds to promote the transformation of tourist areas for better land use and to attract new tourist profiles. The project also aims to offer state-of-the-art facilities for residents.
Specifically, the infrastructure being developed includes a gym and padel courts featuring innovative installations and sustainable construction elements. The parking area will be renovated with the installation of photovoltaic pergolas to generate green energy capable of meeting the facility’s demand. Additionally, the athletics track grandstand will be upgraded for improved accessibility and will also be fitted with photovoltaic systems to supply energy to the facilities.
This initiative aims to transform the current facilities into innovative spaces built with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind, ultimately becoming a benchmark in sports tourism on the island of Mallorca.
